Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Infrastructure Security (InfraSec) team. You will own the architecture and roadmap for core security services, from design to rollout, across authN/Z, proxies, and key management.

You will design planet-scale systems that balance security, reliability, latency, and developer ergonomics, and lead cross-functional launches with infrastructure and research teams.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering background with reliability of distributed systems in production.
• Experience building or operating security infrastructure at planet scale (auth services, proxies, key management).
• Deep understanding of security principles and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and roadmap for core security services from design to rollout.
• Design planet-scale security systems across hardware, OS, Kubernetes, networks, and CI/CD.
• Lead cross-functional launches and drive rollout strategies across large fleets.
• Build or evolve security primitives for identity, attestation, authorization, and key lifecycle.
• Mentor engineers and promote secure-by-default practices.
