Job summary

Treeline Biosciences, Inc. is seeking an experienced Principal Information System Engineer to join the IT team in Watertown. You will lead complex initiatives, escalate issues, and work with MSPs across departments and countries to maintain and improve our enterprise IT stack.

The role administers Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID, Okta, MFA, and PowerShell automation. Requires 8–10+ years in IT ops and a BA/BS in IT/CS or equivalent; biotech startup experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years in systems administration, endpoint management, identity, or IT ops.
• Broad IT experience across Windows, Mac, databases, storage, security, networking and clouds.
• Hands-on with M365, Entra ID CA policies, Okta, endpoint security, PowerShell.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Ownership-driven in issue resolution; no problem is too big or small.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to document clearly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ITSM and ticketing familiarity.
• Ability to collaborate with local/remote coworkers and vendors.
• Curious, creative, and focused on process improvement.
• Biotech startup experience; related certifications are a plus.

We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused Principal Information System Engineer to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience managing modern workplace technologies and troubleshooting complex technical issues. This role reports to our Director, IT Operations and will work closely with both our in-house engineers and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) supporting Treeliners from every department across multiple countries.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical escalation point for the IT organization, including providing hands‑on support to end users as needed.
• Hands‑on leadership for complex technical initiatives.
• Serve as a secondary technical decision‑maker for IT Operations, providing recommendations to the Director on tooling, standards, and vendor issues.
• Administer, support, and optimize cloud‑based enterprise technologies, including endpoint, identity, and security management solutions.
• Manage modern workplace technologies and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Administer and maintain Microsoft 365, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID environments, including Conditional Access Policies and endpoint security configurations.
• Manage identity and access solutions, including Okta and Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA), to safeguard Treeline systems and data.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Partner with in‑house engineers and MSPs to support employees across multiple departments and countries.
• Maintain accurate documentation, ticket updates, and knowledge base articles in accordance with established ITSM processes.
• Collaborate with local and remote coworkers and vendors to design, implement, and continuously improve IT solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 8-10+ years of experience in systems administration, endpoint management, identity management, or IT operations.
• A broad range of overall IT experience, including Windows, Mac, Databases, Storage, Security, Networking and public clouds.
• Strong hands‑on experience with the following or similar:
• Microsoft 365 Administration
• Microsoft Entra ID, including Conditional Access Policies
• Okta
• Endpoint security and device management
• PowerShell (Basic to Intermediate)
• Strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
• A track record of taking ownership in issue resolution. No problem is too big or too small.
• Organized and detail orientated.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear documentation, ticket updates, and knowledge base contributions.
• Familiarity with ticketing systems and ITSM processes
• Experience working collaboratively with coworkers and vendors, both local and remote, while also being effective working independently.
• You are curious, creative, and innovative and want to continuously improve our processes.
• Previous experience working in a biotech startup or biopharmaceutical.
• Related certifications are a plus

This position is classified as exempt. The anticipated annual base salary range for candidates who will work in Watertown is $180,250 to $196,751. The final base salary offered to the successful candidate will be dependent upon several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, and other factors. Treeline Biosciences is a multi‑state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other cities or states.
