IT Systems Administrator

Position Summary

The IT Infrastructure Operations & Architecture (IT IO&A) team is responsible for IT infrastructure from network port to cloud, and the devices in between. The IT IO&A team is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator who can bridge between help desk services and technical subject matter experts in Cloud, Network, and M365. The ITIO Systems Administrator will be the subject matter expert in all things endpoint management. Duties range from help‑desk escalation support to automation and engineering designed to improve service delivery. This role is intended to interface with all the domains ITIO is responsible for, including Scientific Cloud, Networking, M365, and Identity and Access Management.

What You’ll Do

• Provide tier 3 technical escalation support to Flagship Pioneering Help Desk for end‑user support
• Develop, grow, and enhance endpoint engineering capabilities and automation
• Review and onboard new applications into Identity and Access Management
• Perform onsite support in server closets, including racking and unracking equipment
• Travel to Flagship offices in the greater Boston area, remote offices, and occasionally internationally may be required
• Occasional on‑call or after‑hours support

What We’re Looking For

• At least 5 years in IT and a minimum of 2 years in house systems administration
• Experience working with internal IT business stakeholders to identify and document infrastructure requirements and problems
• Strong understanding of Windows 11 and Windows Server
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Intune for user and device administration
• Intermediate understanding of scripting and automation using at least one technology including PowerShell, Terraform, Bash, Python, or an equivalent language
• Intermediate understanding of Identity and Access Management technologies including EntraID, SAML, SCIM, and Windows NTFS permission management
• Familiarity with working in on‑prem IT environments (server rooms, network closets, and IDFs)
• Basic understanding of networking fundamentals including LAN, WAN, DNS, and VPN
• Basic understanding of at least one cloud technology including AWS, Azure, or GCP

Nice to Have

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, business, or related field of study or 5 equivalent years of experience
• Certifications applicable to network, infrastructure, or cloud operations areas, preferred
• Experience with macOS & JAMF, a plus
• Experience dealing with compliance‑related regulations (e.g., PCI, HIPAA, GDPR), preferred
• Basic understanding of information security, preferred
• Experience in an enterprise or similar environment that operates across multiple separate business units or functions, preferred
• Experience with Linux, a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer
• Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, mouse use, and handling small electronic components
• Ability to view computer monitors for prolonged periods
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, or reaching
• Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25–40 lbs (e.g., desktops, monitors, UPS units)
• Ability to work in small or confined spaces such as telecommunications rooms, wiring closets, and under desks
• Ability to use ladders or step stools to access overhead cabling or elevated equipment
• Ability to rack, mount, and cable equipment in standard 19” server racks
• Ability to work in environments with moderate to high noise levels (e.g., cooling systems)
• Ability to work in hot or cold environments typical of server rooms and data centers
• Ability to respond to after‑hours support calls and perform on‑site emergency work as needed

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment and may also require work in telecommunications rooms, data centers, and other technical spaces.

The salary range for this role is $76,000 - $104,500. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
