Job summary

Omega Technical Services, Inc. seeks a Principal Mechanical HVAC Design Engineer to support ongoing operations in Aiken, SC. You will lead HVAC design efforts, sizing calculations, piping diagrams, and project coordination for DOE/DoD programs.

The role requires deep experience in nuclear or process chemical industries, strong knowledge of NFPA/ASHRAE standards, and the ability to guide less senior engineers while communicating results to customers and management.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years’ experience.
• A MS with 8+ years’ experience.
• A BS with 10+ years’ experience or more. BS Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Nuclear Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems.
• Apply technical experience to resolve complex problems in HVAC design and related fields.
• Incorporate advanced technical practices and complex features into problem solving and program planning.
• Provide leadership in determining solutions and be recognized as an expert in a technical area.
• Provide direction on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new applications of existing engineering principles.
• Evaluate results of programs and prepare reports and recommendations.
• Identify improvements where existing technology components are inadequate.
• Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements.
• Develop schedules, monitor progress, and monitor expenditures of budget.
• Communicate results and objectives to customers, colleagues and management.
• Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
• Enhance expertise through leadership in local technical societies.
• Provide design staff augmentation support to SRNS.
• HVAC design development including calculations for sizing, cooling/heating loads, air balancing, etc.
• Create/modify P&IDs, system descriptions, equipment lists, and reviews with fire protection integration.
