Job summary

Vantage is seeking a Principal SME, Utility & Grid Infrastructure, to provide technical expertise and partner with the Energy Strategy team to enable power delivery across utility-facing infrastructure.

This senior role can be based remotely anywhere in the US and requires deep knowledge of utility engagement, grid interconnection, substations and regulatory considerations, with cross-functional collaboration across large-scale environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in utility systems, transmission and distribution infrastructure, grid interconnection or power system engineering.
• Deep knowledge of utility operations, grid planning and substation design.
• Experience with utilities, ISOs, RTOs, regulatory organizations or large-load interconnection processes.
• Strong executive-level communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts into business decisions.
• Travel up to 15% as business evolves.

Responsibilities

• Be the technical authority for utility engagement, grid interconnection, transmission and distribution infrastructure, substations, power quality, utility tariffs, regulatory considerations and grid-connected Energy Hub architectures within Product Engineering.
• Maintain the integrity, usability and evolution of utility service standards, reference architectures, risk assessment frameworks and decision criteria for scalable grid integration across markets.
• Partner with regional leads on utility and grid strategy for project implementation, readiness reviews, site planning and cross-functional alignment.
• Serve as the technical partner to the Energy Strategy team by identifying constraints, defining requirements, validating assumptions and recommending mitigations.
• Reduce technical, interconnection and delivery risk through clear standards and early engagement.
• Establish scalable technical frameworks, reference architectures and decision criteria for Product Engineering.
• Improve cross-functional alignment between Product Strategy, Product Engineering, Development, Energy, Construction and Operations.
• Influence future platform strategy with practical, technically grounded recommendations.
• Advance utility readiness, reliability and interconnection risk management.
• Collaborate with Energy Strategy to develop utility engagement frameworks across regions and providers.
• Provide input on tariffs, rate structures and power procurement strategies.
• Support capacity assessments, readiness reviews and long-range site planning.
• Lead evaluation of transmission and distribution infrastructure for large-scale data centers.
