Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in El Segundo, CA, is seeking a Principal GNC Engineer - Autonomy Algorithm Developer to advance guidance, navigation and control for autonomous air vehicles. You will work on flight control algorithms, outer loop logic, and simulate real-time performance in HIL environments.

The role requires a STEM degree with 5+ years of related experience (or higher), MATLAB/Simulink skills, and the ability to obtain US Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5+ years of related experience, OR Master’s with 3+ years, OR PhD with 1+ year.
• Working knowledge of fixed-wing flight dynamics and autopilot functions.
• Experience using MATLAB and Simulink to model dynamic systems.

Responsibilities

• Support R&D of flight control algorithms for manned and unmanned air vehicles.
• Design, develop, implement, verify, and test GNC algorithms and software.
• Develop outer loop and inner loop control laws and autonomy functions.
• Create linear/non-linear dynamic models and integrate into HIL simulations.
• Support flight test activities and analyze flight test data.
• Prepare analyses for design reviews (PDR/CDR, etc.).
