I'm working with a leading global multi-strategy hedge fund that is looking to hire a Principal Engineer to join its Operations Technology team, with a primary focus on designing, building and owning the firm's P&L platform.

This is a highly visible individual contributor role sitting at the intersection of Trading, Operations, Finance, Risk and Technology. You'll take ownership of the firm's P&L systems while remaining hands‑on across architecture, software engineering and production support, helping modernise the technology that underpins a sophisticated multi‑asset investment platform.

The team is responsible for the systems supporting trade lifecycle processing, positions, P&L, treasury, compliance, fund accounting, settlement and reconciliation. You'll work closely with business stakeholders to design scalable solutions, improve operational workflows and build robust platforms that support the firm's continued growth.

Responsibilities:

• Own the firm's P&L platform, including calculations, data flows and integrations with upstream and downstream systems.
• Design, build and enhance technology supporting trade lifecycle processing, positions, P&L, treasury, compliance, fund accounting, settlement and reconciliation.
• Partner closely with Trading, Risk, Finance, Operations and Technology teams to deliver scalable, reliable and well‑controlled solutions.
• Investigate and resolve complex issues across P&L calculations, trade booking, position management, reconciliations, corporate actions and downstream operational processes.
• Design and build automation, tooling and monitoring solutions to improve platform reliability, transparency and operational efficiency.
• Lead technical projects from design through implementation while contributing to the wider evolution of the Operations Technology platform.
• Provide hands‑on engineering expertise across architecture, software development, production support and operational troubleshooting.

Requirements:

• 8+ years' experience building financial technology platforms within a buy‑side or sell‑side environment.
• Extensive experience designing, building or owning P&L systems within financial services.
• Strong understanding of trade lifecycle processing, positions, P&L calculations, reconciliations, corporate actions and middle/back‑office workflows.
• Strong software engineering experience using Java, Python or similar object‑oriented technologies, with excellent knowledge of enterprise‑scale distributed systems.
• Experience working with operational workflows across treasury, compliance, finance, settlement, fund accounting and regulatory reporting.
• Strong debugging and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate complex cross‑system production issues.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to work directly with Trading, Risk, Finance, Operations and senior Technology leadership.
