Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this role will lead technical work across product development, validation, quality improvement, field performance, and customer support. The initial focus is Hyperion's brake product portfolio, including recently launched products requiring ongoing validation, field analysis, and continuous improvement. Over time, the position is expected to support additional product lines and strategic engineering initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines deep engineering expertise with practical, customer-focused problem solving and can serve as both a technical expert and key customer-facing resource.

Primary Responsibilities
Product Development & Engineering Leadership
  • Serve as Hyperion's primary technical authority for electro-mechanical elevator systems, particularly machine brakes and other safety-critical components.
  • Lead brake product development, validation, testing, and commercialization from concept through launch and field follow-up.
  • Define design standards, testing protocols, performance requirements, reliability targets, and engineering change practices.
  • Evaluate field data, test results, warranty trends, and customer feedback to drive product improvements and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical guidance on product architecture, component selection, manufacturability, compliance, and future technology investments.
Quality, Reliability & Field Performance
  • Own the engineering response to complex product quality, reliability, and field performance issues.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions with Quality, Manufacturing, Operations, and suppliers.
  • Establish and monitor product performance metrics tied to safety, reliability, customer satisfaction, and warranty reduction.
  • Support compliance with applicable standards, regulations, certifications, and internal validation requirements.
Customer, Supplier & Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Act as primary technical representative for elevator-related customer escalations, field evaluations, validation activities, and performance reviews.
  • Support customer site visits, technical presentations, product demonstrations, and product performance communications.
  • Work with suppliers to evaluate component performance, quality, manufacturability, sourcing options, and cost improvement opportunities.
  • Mentor engineers and influence cross-functional decisions through technical expertise, data-driven analysis, and practical problem solving.
  • Partner with Sales, Service, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Customer Support to resolve complex technical challenges.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
Required
  • Minimum 12 years progressive engineering experience in product development, design, manufacturing, quality, or related technical roles.
  • PE license or ability to gain one within 6 months after starting.
  • Deep experience with electromechanical products; brake systems, safety-critical components, elevator/vertical transportation, or industrial machinery strongly.
Preferred
  • Proven ability to lead product validation, test planning, reliability assessment, field performance analysis, and lifecycle support.
  • Strong understanding of quality systems, root cause analysis, corrective action, reliability engineering, testing methodologies, and engineering change management.
  • Ability to translate field data, warranty trends, test results, and customer feedback into design and process improvements.
  • Experience working directly with customers and suppliers to resolve complex technical and product performance issues.
  • Ability to develop technical documentation, product performance reports, standards, specifications, and customer-facing communications.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct management authority.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Recognized by peers as a trusted technical expert and engineering advisor.
  • Combines hands-on problem solving with long-term strategic thinking.
  • Comfortable serving as a customer-facing technical resource in critical discussions.
  • Takes ownership of product performance in the field and drives continuous improvement.
  • Builds credibility through technical competence, responsiveness, accountability, and collaboration.
