Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Principal Software Engineer focused on Cloud Cost Optimization to join our Product Engineering team. You will lead cost-aware engineering for cloud and AI inference, right-size models, routing, batching, and caching to improve spend without impacting reliability or user experience.

You will build dashboards, forecast spend, and establish spend-related SLOs while collaborating with FinOps, AI/ML, and platform teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in CS/CE or equivalent experience.
• Experience with cloud infra (AWS preferred) and cost-focused engineering.
• Experience analyzing cost/performance of production LLM-serving systems.
• Track record driving cross-team cost optimization initiatives with measurable impact.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with FastAPI/Kubernetes/distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Be the cost optimization authority for cloud and AI-inference within the product engineering team.
• Analyze and tune LLM usage for cost efficiency without sacrificing quality or latency SLAs.
• Own cost tracking, dashboards, showback/chargeback, and forecasting models.
• Advise on elasticity and caching from a cost perspective; influence design choices.
• Lead cross-functional cost-reduction initiatives and mentor engineers on cost-aware practices.
