Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to join the TeraWave team. You will own the architecture, design, verification, and testing of hardware that blends precision analog circuitry with high-performance digital compute for the OISL payload, interfacing with GNC and SDN systems.

You will mentor engineers, guide hardware architecture, and drive flight-qualified electronics that meet demanding performance, mass, reliability, and environmental requirements, reporting to the TeraWave

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• 10+ years of electronics design experience.
• 4+ years designing OISL or comparable free-space optical comms hardware.
• Experience in mixed-signal systems combining analog and digital compute.
• Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR4/DDR5) including SI/PI considerations.
• Experience with FPGAs, SoCs, or embedded processors in complex systems.
• Direct experience with space hardware and flight qualification.
• Ability to perform design analyses (WCA, derating, DFMEA) and lab testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and design of OISL payload electronics from concept to flight qualification.
• Define requirements, trades, and design standards for mixed-signal hardware.
• Develop low-noise analog front ends, ADC/DAC chains, and precision references.
• Architect compute subsystems using FPGAs/SoCs with PCIe and DDR interfaces.
• Coordinate cross-disciplinary work with software, systems, and mechanical teams.
• Lead design reviews (PDR/CDR/TRR) and mentor engineers.
