Job summary

Zoom is seeking a Principal DevOps Engineer who combines deep technical expertise with broad system understanding. You will drive reliability and modernization across architecture, CI/CD, and containerization in a hybrid, globally distributed environment.

You will mentor DevOps engineers, enhance observability, and partner with product teams to reduce operational friction while increasing release velocity for large-scale services.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in DevOps, SRE for large-scale, production systems.
• hands-on background in Linux systems, networking, and distributed systems.
• experience operating and design low-latency, high-throughput backend services at global scale.
• Knowledge of media or real-time communication systems (e.g., MMR, WebRTC).
• TCP/IP, routing, DNS, load balancing, and packet capture tools.
• Familiarity with colocation data center operations, including hardware provisioning and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, Docker, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• strong problem-solving, debugging, and systems-level design skills
• Occasional weekend work may be required
• Ability to work across the globe or multiple time zones

Responsibilities

• Leading deep-dive investigations across diverse services and environments.
• Working on real time media systems to identify bottlenecks in architecture or operations.
• Designing and implementing improvements in deployment pipelines, orchestration frameworks, and CI/CD automation to increase reliability and release velocity.
• Collaborating with product and service owners to enhance containerization strategy and resource efficiency.
• Modernizing hybrid infrastructures including colocation data centers, AWS, OCI, and other clouds.
• Driving observability, fault isolation, and resilience engineering to meet SLAs.
• Providing mentorship to DevOps engineers and promoting automation, monitoring, and release practices.
• Championing data-driven reliability through postmortems, SLIs/SLOs, and performance optimization.
