Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead complex data science and engineering initiatives that drive enterprise decisions. You will own delivery of multiple large projects and partner with functional areas to align with strategy.

You will guide hypothesis testing, data model design, scalable pipelines, and production models using Python/R while ensuring data quality and actionable insights for executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree where required.
• 8+ years of experience in a related field.
• In lieu of degree, 10+ years of experience in related field.
• Strong analytic/data science skills.
• Experience with Snowflake.
• Experience building AI Agents.
• Understand Bell curve analysis.
• Incorporate industry benchmarks into analysis.
• Perform outlier detection.
• Strong healthcare experience with Payment Integrity/FWA knowledge.
• Understanding of FWA concepts and CMS guidelines preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and testing of hypotheses across data sets.
• Lead requirements gathering with business and tech staff.
• Define and implement integrated data models from multiple sources.
• Design and develop scalable data pipelines for ingestion and transformation.
• Define and implement data stores based on requirements.
• Develop models using data mining, statistics, predictive modeling and related methods.
• Leverage Python and R to productionize models.
• Engineer new data sets and resolve data quality issues.
• Communicate insights to cross-functional groups to influence decisions.
• Document analytic processes with validation and testing.
• Engage with enterprise areas to incorporate audit feedback.
• Informally lead analysts and present to executive leadership.
