Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead analytics translating data into strategic decisions. You will own multiple large data science projects, guide requirements, and partner across functions to deliver high-impact analyses and models.

You will develop data models, test hypotheses, and communicate actionable insights to executive leadership, leveraging Python, R, and Snowflake in healthcare-focused projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in a related field; 10+ years if no degree.
• Strong analytic/data science skills with experience in data modeling and analytics.
• Experience with Snowflake and building AI agents.
• Exposure to CMS guidelines, Medical/Reimbursement Policy and Payment Integrity is preferred.
• Healthcare domain knowledge is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and testing of hypotheses across diverse data sets.
• Define integrated data models and scalable data pipelines.
• Design production models using methods including predictive analytics and machine learning.
• Engineer data sets with SQL queries and data quality validation.
• Communicate results to executive leadership and influence business direction.
• Collaborate with enterprise areas to incorporate feedback into audits and policy discussions.
