Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to lead high-impact data analyses that translate data into strategic decisions across the organization. You will own multiple large data science and engineering projects and partner with cross-functional teams to deliver outcomes aligned with enterprise strategy.

You will design scalable data pipelines, develop production models using Python and R, and guide executive leadership with insights.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in a related field, 8+ years of experience.
• Strong analytic/data science skills with Snowflake experience.
• Experience building AI agents.
• Understand Bell curve analysis.
• Incorporate industry benchmarks into analysis.
• Perform outlier detection.
• Healthcare experience with Payment Integrity/FWA knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and testing of hypotheses across data sets.
• Lead requirements gathering sessions with business and technical staff.
• Design and implement integrated data models.
• Design and develop scalable data pipeline processes for ingestion, cleansing, transformation, integration and validation.
• Define and implement data stores based on system and consumer requirements.
• Develop models using methods including data mining, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and network analysis.
• Lead production models leveraging Python and R.
• Engineer new data sets and develop SQL queries for data integration.
• Apply advanced ideas of Big Data systems to data set engineering and analytics.
• Lead development and reviews of complex analytic models and algorithms.
• Identify insights, suggest recommendations, and influence business direction.
