Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to lead major data science and engineering projects, translating data into strategic organizational decisions. You will partner with cross-functional teams to deliver robust analytics and drive enterprise strategy.

The role requires deep expertise in data modeling, statistics, and scalable data pipelines, with hands-on use of Python and R.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required)
• 8+ years of experience in related field
• In lieu of degree, 10+ years of experience in related field
• Strong analytic/data science skills
• Experience with Snowflake
• Experience building AI Agents
• Understand Bell curve analysis
• Strong healthcare experience with Payment Integrity/FWA business knowledge is required
• Understanding of FWA concepts, CMS guidelines, Medical/Reimbursement Policy are preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead development and testing of hypotheses across data sets
• Gathers requirements with business and technical staff
• Define and implement integrated data models
• Design scalable data pipeline processes for ingestion, cleansing, transformation, and validation
• Define data stores based on system and consumer requirements
• Design and develop models for complex business solutions using various methods
• Develop production models using Python and R
• Engineer data sets and write SQL queries for data integration and quality
• Apply Big Data concepts to data set engineering and analytic model implementation
• Lead development and reviews of analytic models and algorithms
• Communicate results to cross-functional groups to influence business direction
• Document and test analytic processes with data validation
• Engage with enterprise areas to incorporate feedback into audit processes
• Articulate analytic methods to drive business outcomes for Commercial and Medicare
• Informally lead other analysts and synthesize information for executives
