Job summary

Pedestal Health is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to build scalable AI-enabled analytics and data-quality tooling within the Quantitative Sciences organization. You will own internal tools as products, drive roadmaps, and mentor other data scientists.

You will partner with Product, Engineering, Medical, and Commercial teams, ensuring trust, provenance, and quality as real-world healthcare data evolves. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in quantitative field or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with real-world healthcare data (EHR, claims, registry).
• Built internal tools, platforms, or analytic products used by others.
• Strong Python and SQL skills in a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake).
• End-to-end data quality, testing, or observability ownership.
• Experience with large language models beyond prototyping.
• Ability to work with raw, messy data and derive meaning.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product and engineering teams.
• Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain methods and limits.
• Interest in growing into technical leadership and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and scale AI-enabled tooling for cohorts and feasibility analysis.
• Scale AI-enabled data quality checks and automated pipelines across schemas and data refreshes.
• Provide technical oversight, code reviews, and mentorship to data scientists.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Medical, and Commercial teams on roadmaps and standards.
• Own internal tools as products with versions, quality standards, and documentation.
