Job summary

Pedestal Health is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to build the infrastructure and tools for AI-assisted analytics and data quality. You will own and scale internal products with users, versions, quality standards, and a roadmap.

This hands-on leadership role combines technical contribution with mentorship, partnering with Product, Engineering, Medical Science, Clinical Operations, and Commercial teams, reporting to the Head of Quantitative Sciences.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in data science, statistics, computer science, computational biology, or related field.
• Experience with real-world healthcare data (EHR, claims, registry) and its quality challenges.
• Track record building internal tools, platforms, or analytic products used by others.
• Strong Python and SQL skills; experience with Snowflake.
• Experience with large language models, prompt/workflow design.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; mentorship mindset.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and scale internal AI-powered tooling that lets the team generate cohorts and run analyses reliably.
• Extend tooling to recurring analytic work, including code review and protocol development.
• Gather requirements from users and iterate on feedback to improve usability and impact.
• Own tooling trustworthiness: testing, release validation, and monitoring as data evolves.
• Scale adoption through documentation, training, onboarding, and enablement.
• Define guardrails for AI use in client-facing work and provenance recording.
• Design data quality checks and automated pipelines in collaboration with Engineering.
