Job summary

Pedestal Health seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead the Quantitative Sciences organization. You will design, build, and scale internal AI tooling and data-quality capabilities, owning them as products with users, versions, and roadmaps.

You will mentor other data scientists, partner with Product, Engineering, Medical Science, and Commercial teams, and report to the Head of Quantitative Sciences. This role blends hands-on coding with technical leadership and governance.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in data science, statistics, computer science, computational biology, or a related quantitative field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
• Experience working with real-world healthcare data — EHR, claims, or registry — including familiarity with its quality challenges
• A track record of building internal tools, platforms, or analytic products used by others, and owning them through multiple versions
• Strong programming ability in Python and SQL, with experience in a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake
• Demonstrated ownership of a data quality, testing, or observability system end to end, not only authoring checks
• Practical experience building with large language models beyond prototyping, including prompt/workflow design

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and scale AI-powered tooling for cohort counts and analysis workflows.
• Lead the extension of tooling to recurring analytic work and protocol development.
• Gather requirements from internal teams and iterate on feedback.
• Own trustworthiness of tooling with tests, validations, and performance monitoring.
• Scale adoption through documentation, training, and onboarding.
• Define guardrails for AI use in client-facing work and data provenance.
