Job summary

Pedestal Health is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to build AI-enabled analytics and data-quality tooling within the Quantitative Sciences group. You will own internal tools, scale capabilities, and lead cross-functional collaboration with Product, Engineering, Medical, and Commercial teams.

You will mentor other data scientists, guide AI governance, and help shape the roadmap for trustworthy analytics on real-world healthcare data.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in data science, statistics, computer science, computational biology, or related field
• Experience with real-world healthcare data (EHR, claims, registry) and its quality challenges
• Track record building internal tools or analytic platforms used by others
• Strong programming in Python and SQL, with cloud data warehouse experience such as Snowflake
• End‑to‑end ownership of data quality, testing, or observability systems
• Experience building with large language models beyond prototyping
• Comfort with raw, messy source data and curiosity to uncover contents
• Cross‑functional with product and engineering, able to uphold technical stance
• Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain limitations and results
• Interest in growing into technical leadership with mentoring

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and improve AI-powered tooling for cohorts and feasibility
• Extend tooling to recurring analytic work and analysis code review
• Gather requirements from internal users and iterate on feedback
• Define guardrails for AI use in client-facing work and provenance
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Medical, and Commercial teams; mentor others
