Pedestal Health in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina seeks a Principal Data Scientist to build the infrastructure and tools that power AI-assisted analytics and real-world data quality. You will own internal tooling as products, mentor other data scientists, and partner with Product, Engineering, Medical Science, Clinical Operations, and Commercial teams to scale impact.

This hands-on leadership role combines technical execution with cross-functional influence, shaping the data science

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in data science, statistics, computer science, computational biology, or a related field.
• Experience with real-world healthcare data (EHR, claims, registries) and data quality challenges.
• Proven track record building internal tools or analytic platforms used by others.
• Strong Python and SQL programming, with cloud data warehouse experience (Snowflake).

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and scale AI-powered tooling for cohorts and analysis workflows.
• Own internal tooling as products with users, versions, and quality standards.
• Mentor data scientists and provide code reviews and technical oversight.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Medical Science, Clinical Operations, and Commercial teams.
• Define guardrails for AI use and ensure provenance and review processes.
