Job summary

Appgate is expanding its Data + AI team in New York to build a cloud-native data platform that supports large-scale pipelines and a secure data lake. You will join as a Staff/Principal engineer shaping the stack and engineering standards across AI-enabled security initiatives.

The role emphasizes leadership in ambiguous greenfield projects, collaboration with CTO and leadership, and delivering scalable, compliant solutions both on AWS and on-prem environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software/data engineering with leadership experience
• Self-starter able to own delivery end-to-end
• Cloud-native platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure) and Kubernetes
• Proficient with modern data technologies: Kafka, Spark/Flink, ElasticSearch, Redshift, Delta Lake, dbt
• Familiar with AI/ML production workflows (feature stores, model deployment, monitoring)
• Track record of leading ambiguous greenfield initiatives, shaping architecture, mentoring teams
• Experience in security domains (secure access, monitoring, threat detection, anomaly detection)
• Based in New York City, able to work onsite 3–4 days/week at One Penn Plaza

Responsibilities

• Define and build the data platform: scalable data pipelines, event streaming, centralized data lake
• Enable AI products by operationalizing ML/AI models on the data platform
• Shape architecture: choose tools, frameworks, and cloud infra for scalability and compliance
• Lead and mentor engineers, ramping up on modern data engineering and AI practices
• Drive clarity from ambiguity by turning business goals into technical roadmaps
• Influence company direction by aligning technical strategy with Appgate’s AI-driven security goals
