Job summary

AppGate is seeking a Staff/Principal Platform Engineer in New York City to lead the foundational AI platform and infrastructure. You’ll own APIs, cloud and self-managed components, ensuring fast, reliable and observable systems at scale, while setting technical direction and mentoring engineers.

You will collaborate with data scientists and product teams to align platform investments with AppGate’s strategic AI vision and security focus, while delivering strong reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• Experience: extensive platform, infrastructure or SRE engineering at scale (Staff 8+ years, Principal 12+ years).
• DevOps depth: IaC, CI/CD, containers and orchestration, AWS.
• Observability: hands-on with metrics, logging, tracing and SLOs.
• Data platform: real-time and batch ingestion pipelines, feature stores and data quality.
• Engineering craft: backend language such as Python or Go, automation bias.
• Leadership: record of setting direction and mentoring engineers while hands-on.
• Mindset: pragmatic, ownership-driven in a fast-moving team.

Responsibilities

• Build the Platform: design, build and operate cloud infra, services and pipelines for AI and cloud products; strong with Kafka and Elasticsearch and Kubernetes.
• Infrastructure as Code & Deployment Orchestration: Terraform and Helm for provisioning and configuration.
• Observability: instrument APIs and services with metrics, logging, tracing and alerts; define SLOs.
• Data Platform: real-time and batch data ingestion pipelines and data quality.
• Integrations: third-party connectors and platform integrations.
• Operationalize AI/ML: model serving, inference pipelines, MLOps tooling and drift monitoring.
• Reliability & automation: apply SRE to reduce toil; deliver IaC, CI/CD and self-service tooling.
• Technical direction: set platform standards and practices; mentor engineers.
• Cross-functional collaboration: align platform investments with strategic vision with data scientists and product teams.
