Job summary

The Allen Institute seeks a Principal Data Architect to lead the organization and curation of its extensive multimodal biological data assets, spanning over 20 years and multiple petabytes of data. This role owns data governance, stewardship, and metadata practices, establishing standards and driving centralized cataloging and lifecycle management across scientific and technology teams.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in metadata standards, data lifecycle management, and governance frameworks.
• Experience in data governance in multi-stakeholder research environments.
• Familiarity with datasets in biology/biomedical fields and regulatory standards.
• Knowledge of cloud storage and data infrastructure for large-scale data.

Responsibilities

• Establish and advance data governance and stewardship programs across programs.
• Develop central metadata standards for large-scale multimodal data.
• Drive adoption of data governance and tooling across the Institute.
• Advise leadership on data management tradeoffs, sustainability, and cost.
• Ensure alignment with NIST, HIPAA, and institutional security standards.
