Job summary

Starbucks Technology is seeking a Principal Architect to lead architecture development across Legal Technology, Azure, AWS, Atlassian, and ServiceNow. This hands-on role requires translating business needs into working architectures and demonstrations, not mere roadmaps.

You will champion best practices while staying deeply fluent in the platforms and contributing to security, rationalization, and future-state planning.

• Overall IT experience – 15 years
• Technical environments and systems/application development – 10 years
• Architecture experience – 7 years
• Functional and systems modeling – 10 years
• Hands-on experience with Azure, AWS, Atlassian (Jira/Confluence), ServiceNow or legal technology platforms
• Indirect people development – 10 years
• Business process and system design – 10 years
• Strategic planning – 4 years
• Financial analysis & business planning – 7 years
• Running technology proofs-of-concepts – 10 years
• Track record of software rationalization with measurable cost/complexity impact
• Strong security fundamentals without relying on a dedicated security team

Responsibilities

• Evaluate build-versus-buy trade-offs for capabilities with TCO, security, and maintenance in mind
• Design and prototype custom tools or integrations when build is warranted
• Maintain fluency across domains and enterprise programs, move from strategy to configuration review
• Personally build and maintain architecture diagrams, data flow maps, and integration inventories across all five platform areas
• Prototype, test, and validate integration patterns directly
• Stay current on platform capabilities, licensing models, and roadmaps across the five ecosystems
• Lead rationalization efforts to identify overlaps and consolidation opportunities
• Collaborate with security/compliance to translate findings into remediation plans
• Define security standards for integrations, APIs, identity/access management
• Develop capability views, architectures, and roadmaps for business/tech capabilities
• Advise leaders on priorities and organizational alignment
• Evaluate industry trends and translate to Starbucks-specific plans
• Partner with capability owners to develop concepts from ideation through business case
