Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Principal Architect to own observability and hybrid cloud architecture. You’ll define standards for telemetry, orchestration across OpenShift on-prem and public clouds, and drive AI-enabled observability initiatives.

This is a hands-on leadership role with architecture docs, PoCs, and leadership presentations. You will collaborate with security and compliance teams on HIPAA/SOX, mentor engineers, and shape enterprise telemetry practices across the organization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in infrastructure, cloud architecture, platform engineering, or SRE
• 8+ years in observability, cloud infrastructure, or similar at a large enterprise
• Solid experience with two of Azure, AWS, or GCP
• 5+ years with Kubernetes in production
• 5+ years with OpenTelemetry or similar frameworks
• 5+ years with observability platforms (Grafana/Mimir/Loki/Tempo, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, Dynatrace)
• Experience defining SLOs/SLIs and alerting frameworks at scale
• Proven track record writing architecture standards adopted by teams

Responsibilities

• Own the enterprise observability reference architecture across all environments (cloud and on-prem)
• Drive OpenTelemetry-first instrumentation strategy and pipeline design
• Build and operate telemetry pipelines on Grafana Mimir, Loki, Tempo with multi-tenant configurations
• Define reliability metrics (SLOs/SLIs, error budgets, alerts)
• Own integration between observability tooling and incident management (ServiceNow ITOM, xMatters)
• Drive telemetry schema standards for downstream usefulness
• Build/maintain reference architectures for hybrid multi-cloud (OpenShift on-prem, Azure, AWS, GCP)
• Provide guidance on compute runtime choices (containers vs VMs vs bare metal vs serverless)
• Push FinOps maturity by integrating cost data into observability stack
• Identify AI/ML value in observability (anomaly detection, root cause, smarter alerts)
• Represent CVS Health in vendor evaluations and engage with open-source (CNCF, OpenTelemetry, Grafana)
