Job summary

Rakuten International seeks a Principal Android Engineer to lead the evolution of client application architecture and platform capabilities. You will define the technical direction for Android across core frameworks, dynamic rendering systems, and design system integrations powering scalable mobile experiences.

You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineering teams to deliver high-performance, accessible, and localized mobile apps, mentoring engineers and shaping reusable

Qualifications

• Expert in Android SDK, Android Studio, Kotlin, and Java.
• Strong knowledge of Android architectures and patterns (MVVM/MVP/Clean).
• Experience with DI (Dagger/Hilt) and reactive programming (RxJava/Coroutines).
• Proficiency with XML Views and Jetpack Compose.
• Experience with modularization and testing (JUnit, Espresso).
• Experience with large-scale, multi-region mobile platforms and AI tooling.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive Android technical direction across core frameworks and rendering systems.
• Lead design system integrations and reusable UI components for scalable apps.
• Mentor engineers, enforce best practices, and improve DX.
• Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver accessible, high-performance apps.
• Guide API integration standards and cross-platform consistency.
• Pilot adoption of AI/ML techniques to enhance development workflows.
