Job summary

Planet Group is seeking a Principal, Software Architect to accelerate AI transformation across finance and accounting. This remote role involves designing complex AI solutions, delivering production-grade components, and mentoring engineers to build reusable assets with strong security and governance.

The position emphasizes hands-on architecture, reference implementations, automated testing, and collaboration with the AI Engineering Lead and other teams to ensure robust, scalable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in enterprise software engineering and solution architecture.
• Delivery of production generative AI solutions using LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, or agent workflows.
• Strong Python engineering skills with APIs, data systems, SQL, testing, and maintainable services.
• Experience evaluating AI behavior with datasets, acceptance criteria, failure analysis, and regression checks.
• Experience deploying and operating cloud solutions with CI/CD, monitoring, and access controls.

Responsibilities

• Partner with business and product stakeholders to define solution scope and measurable outcomes.
• Lead architecture for complex AI initiatives, documenting decisions and tradeoffs.
• Personally build critical components and reference implementations, with prototyped production delivery.
• Develop automated tests and AI evaluation datasets covering retrieval, groundedness, and validation.
• Implement access controls, audit trails, and safeguards for sensitive data and actions.
• Work with engineers to implement CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, and runbooks.
• Diagnose production issues and improve reliability, latency, and cost.
• Coach engineers and transfer ownership of design and code through pairing and reviews.
• Provide technical guidance to vendor teams and ensure acceptance criteria adherence.
• Leave behind maintainable code and deployment documentation for the permanent team.
