Job summary

Procore seeks a Principal Software Engineer to define and execute the long-term technical strategy for backend and AI services powering data applications and production-grade data platform capabilities.

You will shape architectural standards, platform evolution, AI enablement, and modern development practices at scale, driving AI capabilities into core products securely and cost-effectively.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of software engineering experience with backend system architecture.
• Strong foundation in object oriented programming and scalable design.
• Experience building large scale data platforms and data driven apps.
• Expertise in REST and GraphQL APIs, including versioning and security.
• Hands-on with distributed data processing and streaming (Spark, Kafka).
• Ability to architect end-to-end production grade systems with reliability.
• Experience with LLM integration, RAG, vector search, or agent orchestration.
• Proficient in cloud native environments and modern CI/CD practices.
• Ability to influence architecture across multiple domains.
• Bachelor’s in CS/CE; Master’s preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical authority for domain architecture and long term system health.
• Translate business priorities into scalable backend, data, and AI architectures.
• Design large scale data platforms and backend services with low latency APIs.
• Establish durable data modeling standards across domains for scalability.
• Lead production grade AI systems including LLMs, RAG, vector search, and orchestration.
• Guide SDLC with agentic tooling and modern development practices.
• Ensure governance, observability, security and cost efficiency in solutions.
• Deliver reference architectures and patterns beyond a single team.
• Anticipate risks and drive iterative modernization across systems.
• Collaborate with product leaders to convert opportunities into robust systems.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise AI-native engineering standards.
