Job summary

UL LLC seeks a Principal Engineer - Digital AI, Consumer TIC, to advance AI governance, lifecycle assurance, and AI system evaluation across UL Solutions offerings. You will drive standards, certification, advisory, and training programs for evolving AI technologies.

The role blends enterprise AI governance with hands-on leadership in cloud/AI platforms, risk management, and stakeholder collaboration. Hybrid work with on-site required 3 days in UL offices; remote considered for non-local

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in CS, software engineering, AI, data science, or related discipline (advanced degree preferred).
15+ years in software/platforms/cloud/AI, with 5+ years direct AI experience.
Experience translating AI governance, model risk and regulatory requirements into practical frameworks.
Ability to evaluate AI systems, identify failure modes, risks, and control gaps.
Knowledge of AI evaluation methods: benchmarking, bias, robustness, monitoring.
Familiar with predictive AI, LLMs, RAG, AI agents and related risks.
Strong presentation, writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Advanced degree in AI/ML/Robotics/CS/DS or related (preferred).
Familiarity with AI governance frameworks and regulatory requirements (preferred).
Experience developing standards, conformity assessment, or audit frameworks (preferred).
Ability to influence customers, regulators, and stakeholders (preferred).
