Job summary

Ochsner Health System is seeking a skilled Medical Coding Specialist to review and abstract outpatient, ED, lab, radiology, and minor primary care services. You will assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes in line with guidelines and payer requirements, ensuring accurate reimbursements.

Requirements include a high school diploma and either 1 year coding experience or AHIMA/AAPC certification. Strong communication and data entry skills are essential in a collaborative hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Required – High School diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred – AHIMA/AAPC accredited coding program with certification.
• Required – 1 year of coding experience OR an AHIMA/AAPC certification.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes per guidelines for professional, facility, and ED services.
• Review documentation to ensure data integrity and support codes.
• Communicate with providers for clarification when needed.
• Collaborate with team to meet monthly goals (DNFB, Pre-AR, Denials, edits).
• Research patient accounts to resolve questions or errors.
• Maintain productivity and accuracy standards.
• Verify discharge disposition from medical records as required.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
