Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a medical coder to review and assign ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes for professional services and hospital outpatient procedures. You will validate documentation to support codes and ensure accurate reimbursement.

Requirements include a High School diploma (AHIMA/AAPC certification preferred) and 1 year of coding experience. You will work with providers and teammates to meet accuracy and productivity standards in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred AHIMA/AAPC certification.
• 1 year of coding experience required.
• Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS.
• Proficient with data entry and Windows applications.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assigns ICD-10, CPT and/or HCPCS codes within established guidelines.
• Ensures the data integrity of coded patient records by reviewing documentation.
• Acts as a resource by researching patient accounts in response to questions.
• Complies with department productivity and accuracy standards.
• Communicates with providers for clarification or additional documentation.
• Collaborates with team to meet departmental monthly goals (DNFB, Pre-AR, Denials, Edits).
• Verifies discharge disposition when appropriate based on documentation.
• Other duties as required.
