Job summary

Ochsner Health seeks a medical coder to accurately code professional services and hospital outpatient procedures. You will ensure compliant documentation, verify data integrity, and collaborate with providers to resolve coding questions.

A strong background in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS and data entry is required. Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of coding experience and a high school diploma or equivalent, with AHIMA or AAPC certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Proficient in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Experience with professional coding and hospital outpatient coding.
• Strong data entry and computer skills; able to use coding software and EHR systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for provider inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assigns ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes per guidelines across professional and hospital outpatient settings.
• Review medical documentation to ensure code accuracy and data integrity.
• Research accounts and respond to coding questions or discrepancies.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards within the department.
• Communicate with providers for documentation clarification and requests.
• Collaborate with team and departments to meet monthly targets (DNFB, Denials, Edits).
• Verify discharge dispositions when indicated by medical records.
