Preventative Maintenance Technician

Now Hiring for our shop in Rolla, KS!

This position will perform routine and some non-routine maintenance and repair work on vehicles (primarily Class 8 trucks and pickups) in accordance with Transdev standards. The technician will perform tasks such as tire maintenance, visual inspections, routine repairs, and take responsibility for vehicle safety. The role involves working with minimal supervision, handling more advanced issues, and mentoring junior technicians when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain vehicles and ensure safety by performing limited repairs such as replacing bulbs, fuses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, checking fluid levels, and changing fluids and filters.
  • Conduct mechanical repairs including brakes, brake inspections, engine tune‑ups, suspensions, drive trains, and transmissions under moderate supervision.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work, parts usage, and orders.
  • Assist Technician III with preventive maintenance (P‑M’s), safety inspections, and annual maintenance.
  • Remove and replace engine, transmission, and differential assemblies under supervision.
  • Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair.
  • Notify supervisors of hazardous conditions and corrective actions taken.
  • Evaluate completed work before release and seek approval where required.
  • Assist with road calls and emergency services as needed.
  • Adhere to Transdev standards, policies and procedures.
  • Move vehicles safely between job sites and work areas.
  • Repair and maintain shop equipment, clean vehicles, and keep the shop environment organized.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred); vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred).
  • Class B CDL with air‑brake endorsement (preferred).
  • State inspection license if required.
  • ASE Certification (preferred).
Experience
  • Intermediate mechanical aptitude and 3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (or equivalent education and experience).
  • Adherence to state DOT motor‑vehicle inspection and safety standards.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Intermediate problem‑solving ability.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Comfortable using hand tools.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Maintain an organized shop and clean workspace.
  • Full attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Ability to use adequate mechanic tool inventory safely.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical as applicable.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Maintenance shop environment with dust, dirt and grease conditions.
  • Ability to work under all weather conditions.
  • Strength to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in crouched positions, on a creeper, or under a vehicle.
