Preventative Cardiology Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary

The Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the Department ofPediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seekinga Preventative Cardiology Nurse Practitioner to join the outpatientcardiology team at Primary Children's Hospital.

The successful candidate will provide care for children andadolescents with a broad range of cardiovascular conditions. Theposition will include one full day each week in the PediatricPreventive Cardiology Clinic and two full days each week in generalpediatric cardiology clinics. Clinics may be located at the EcclesOutpatient ServicesBuilding in Salt Lake City, Primary Children'sHospital Miller Family Campus in Lehi, or the Intermountain LaytonHospital outpatient clinic, based on programmatic and patient-careneeds.

This is an entirely outpatient position without scheduled inpatientservice or overnight call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: Clinical

• Provide comprehensive outpatient evaluation and management ofchildren and adolescents with known or suspected cardiovascularconditions, including murmurs, chest pain, palpitations, syncope,dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular risk factors.
• Conduct two full days of general pediatric cardiology clinicseach week with the support of attending pediatriccardiologists.
• Conduct one full day of Pediatric Preventive Cardiology Cliniceach week with the support of attending pediatriccardiologists.
• Order, review, and communicate the results of laboratorytesting, electrocardiograms, ambulatory rhythm monitoring,echocardiograms, and other diagnostic studies within the NursePractitioner's scope of practice.
• Provide counseling regarding cardiovascular risk reduction,nutrition, physical activity, medication adherence, and otherpreventive health strategies.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dietitians, geneticcounselors, exercise specialists, pharmacists, and othermultidisciplinary team members to provide coordinated, patient- andfamily-centered care.
• Provide follow-up communication, results management, medicationmanagement, documentation, and care coordination for assignedpatients.
• Facilitate appropriate referrals and transitions of care withinthe Heart Center and across other pediatric specialties.
• Maintain timely, accurate, and complete clinicaldocumentation.
• Demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, andreliability.

Program Development and Academic Work

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives designed to improve access, clinical outcomes, patient experience, carecoordination, and operational efficiency.
• Assist with the development and implementation of standardizedclinical pathways, protocols, and patient-education materials.
• Support data collection and review of program metrics forgeneral and preventive cardiology clinics.
• Contribute to the continued development and expansion ofoutpatient pediatric cardiology services across Primary Children'sHospital locations.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to theDivision Chief of Pediatric Cardiology or the Division Chief'sdesignee and works collaboratively with the medical directors andclinical leadership of the general and preventive cardiologyprograms.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge andskills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of thepatients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual mustdemonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth anddevelopment and the ability to assess data regarding the patient'sstatus and provide care as described in the department's policiesand procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

• Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State ofUtah.

Preferred

• Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by yourdepartment or by privileging criteria.
• Utah State prescriptive privileges.
• Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing orequivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is currentlicensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certificationwhich requires the successful completion of a nationally accreditedexamination.
• UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers applyfor credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

Work Schedule Summary: Full-time, entirely outpatientposition without scheduled inpatient service or overnight callresponsibilities.The weekly clinical schedule includes twofull days of general pediatric cardiology clinic and one full dayof Pediatric Preventive Cardiology Clinic. Clinic locationassignments and the remainder of the work schedule will be based onprogrammatic and patient-care needs.Monday through Fridayfrom 8:00 am- 5:00 pm. Scheduled shifts may vary depending onoperational needs. As with any active medical practitioner, hoursmay extend to accomplish the work required that particularday.Opportunities for a hybrid telework schedule may beavailable if supported by operational needs after training periodis complete provided the arrangement is supported by operationalneeds and individual performance. Telework arrangements are notguaranteed and may be modified or discontinued at any time based onbusiness requirements or performance.
