Job Summary: The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah, School ofMedicine has an immediate opening for an Outpatient ServicesSpecialist to join our front desk reception team at PrimaryChildren's Outpatient Services Building. The Outpatient ServicesSpecialist makes a difference for patients in the outpatient careunit by providing excellent customer service, facilitating, andensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical,hospital staff and departments to maximize unit efficiency.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  1. Completes the patient registration process by reviewingaccounts and other compliance-related documents for completenessand accuracy. Obtains and documents missing information requiredfor the completion of patient registration.
  2. Enters corrected or new patient data into iCentra and EPICsystems.
  3. Prepares paperwork for patient visits.
  4. Communicates with patients, providers, and colleagues in aconfidential, professional manner using tact and diplomacy.
  5. Notifies patients and their families of co-pays, deductibles,and co-insurance as appropriate; collects co-payments. Reconcilesagainst daily charge reports.
  6. Schedules patient appointments. Contacts patients forrescheduling, missed appointments, and appointment reminders.Monitors patient flow, adjusts workflow as appropriate, andnotifies clinical staff.
  7. Performs special projects and other clinical support duties asassigned.

Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful ordifficult situations.

  • This position involves light work that may exert up to 20pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting,carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects. Thisposition involves standing for extended periods of time and is notexposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • One year of office experience, customer service experience, or equivalency (one year of education can besubstituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Current, valid Utah driver's license at time of hire may be required in some areas.
