President & General Manager — Industrial Field Services Company (Confidential)
The Opportunity
Valor Front has been retained by a well-established, privately held industrial field-services company in the Northeast to recruit a President & General Manager. For decades the company has built its reputation on safety, reliability, and technical excellence with licensed technicians and engineers serving mission-critical commercial and industrial customers around the clock. The business is backed by a committed private owner with capital for organic growth and acquisitions.
This is a role for a hands-on operator who has run a branch, region, or service business with full P&L. This role takes someone who understands field technicians, service contracts, and project margins from the ground up, and who is ready to lead a whole company into its next phase of growth.
What You'll Do
- Run the business with full P&L accountability, reporting directly to a small, high-trust private ownership group.
- Grow recurring service and maintenance revenue; protecting long-standing accounts, lifting retention, and winning new contracts against national facility-services competitors.
- Lead a licensed field workforce, including union technicians, with a visible safety culture and a reputation for developing people.
- Own the project pipeline: bid, negotiate, and deliver long-cycle capital and installation projects, and manage change orders, MSAs, and T&Cs to protect margin.
- Integrate engineering, equipment sales, and technical service into one customer-centric model that maximizes lifecycle value.
- Expand into new segments and territories, and identify, execute, and integrate bolt-on acquisitions.
- Drive operational discipline: financial controls, purchasing and supplier policies, scheduling, and data-driven reporting that prevent margin erosion and field delays.
- Build strategic partnerships with OEMs, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Who We're Looking For
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in a field-service or industrial-services business like elevator, boiler, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, fire/life safety, or similar. Ideally having come up through operations.
- Branch, regional, or business-unit General Manager experience with P&L ownership and a demonstrated record of growing revenue and profit, not just maintaining them.
- Deep familiarity with service contracts, maintenance portfolios, and customer retention; comfortable owning the largest accounts personally.
- Proven ability to negotiate contracts, change orders, and master service agreements that add directly to the bottom line.
- Experience leading union and non-union field technicians, with a strong safety and training track record.
- Exposure to acquisitions, integrating acquired companies, teams, and customers.
- Commercial instincts: able to spot opportunities across every service line and sell a vision to customers and employees alike.
- Executive presence and judgment to work effectively with a private ownership group; MBA or equivalent business education a plus.
- Based in or willing to relocate to Massachusetts (relocation support available), with some regional travel.
Compensation
Competitive base salary, short-term bonus, long-term incentive component, comprehensive benefits, and relocation assistance.
