Job summary

The Nature Conservancy in Kentucky seeks a Prescribed Fire and Stewardship Technician based in Lexington with a possible remote option for nearby applicants. The role leads prescribed fire and stewardship efforts, guides conservation plans, and coordinates teams and partners across multiple preserves.

Bachelor's degree and 3 years in natural resource management are required, with FFT1 and Wildland Faller qualifications preferred. Travel is expected, and a valid driver\'s license is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent in natural resource management or related field.
• 3 years\' experience in natural resource management or similar field.
• Experience with wildland fire management in Appalachians or similar ecosystems, including burns, plans, supervision, engines/UTVs.
• Foundational knowledge of prescribed fire, fuels management, restoration, ecology of eastern forests.
• Experience maintaining and operating fire/stewardship equipment (pumps, power tools, off-road vehicles, trailers).
• Proficiency with ArcGIS, Avenza Maps, GPS, and Microsoft products.
• Valid driver\'s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assists with implementing prescribed burns by leading squads and planning logistics.
• Contributes to burn, land, and stewardship plan development.
• Maintains fire and stewardship equipment and records.
• Maintains fitness for arduous field operations.
• Works in varied and challenging field conditions.
• Leads monitoring programs and data reporting.
• Coordinates teams across a wide geographic area.
• Assists with hiring and supervision of seasonal staff and volunteers.
• Ensures compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
• Manages budget, vendors, and contract aspects of projects.
• Maintains preserves, trails, and infrastructure.
