Job summary

The Nature Conservancy is hiring 9 NC Coastal Plain Burn Crew Member positions based in Wilmington, NC. This role focuses on prescribed fire operations, restoration, maintenance, and management of preserves, with opportunities to gain certifications.

You will work nights, weekends, and overtime during burn windows, with ongoing training and a strong emphasis on safety. Housing is provided in some cases and you will serve as a representative of TNC in operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be RXCM or FFT2 with required trainings (L-180, S-190, S-130) and one supervised training burn.
• Must meet physical fitness standards (walk 3 miles in under 45 min with 45 lb vest).
• Experience operating equipment (chainsaws, ATVs/UTVs, T6 engines, tractors).
• Must have valid driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Participate in prescribed fire activities including burn unit prep, operations, and monitoring.
• Assist in longleaf pine restoration projects.
• Maintain preserves and buildings, tools, equipment, fences, and grounds.
• Represent TNC during prescribed fire operations with partner agencies.
• Pursue training and certifications (First Aid/CPR, ATV/UTV, wildland chainsaw).
