Job summary

The Nature Conservancy in Greenville, SC is seeking a Burn Crew Manager to lead prescribed-fire operations and supervise three seasonal technicians. You will coordinate with conservation partners and oversee burn planning, safety, and logistics across diverse terrains, from montane oaks to coastal pines.

This hands-on leadership role requires travel, weekend work, and the ability to manage equipment, time, and expenses.

Qualifications

• Qualified Fire Fighter Type 1 (Squad Boss) and FFT1 task book completion.
• NWCG arduous wildland firefighter rating achievable by a 45lb-pack test.
• Experience supervising staff or volunteers is required.
• Experience operating and maintaining equipment (4WD, engines, ATVs, chainsaws, drip torch).
• Willingness to travel extensively and work weekends with a flexible schedule.
• Ability to perform physical work in inclement weather.
• Must provide 8-inch lace-up leather boots.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead a three-person seasonal Burn Crew and liaise with fire staff.
• Oversee burn planning, prep, and on-the-line execution.
• Monitor fire behavior, resources, and safety during operations.
• Track time, expenses, equipment repairs, and supplies.
• Support training and professional development for crew members.
