General Summary:

The mission of Learning Lighthouse Child Development Center is to provide exceptional child development services to employees of Portage Learning and the surrounding community. Our dedicated teachers deliver the highest-quality early education inside our state-of-the-art facility. We fulfill our mission and purpose through our values of service, community, and education. The Preschool Teacher at the Learning Lighthouse Child Development Center will be responsible for supervising the children in their care, as well as overseeing the Assistant Group Supervisor in managing the classroom. The number of children under the Preschool Teacher’s supervision will vary according to placement and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Leadership: Assuming responsibility for the classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher or Group Supervisor.
  • Supervision: Implementation of DPW rules and regulations within assigned classrooms. Assist in the supervision of children and helping children adjust, learn, and socialize.
  • Teaching: Leading and implementing lesson plans into daily activities, focusing on learning, play, and kindergarten readiness skills as outlined by the childcare facility.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain daily records of daily observations, activities, meals served, and medications administered.
  • Classroom Duties: Supervising and assisting the Assistant Group Supervisor with student supervision, implementing lesson plans, creating crafts, and communicating with parents.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned that pertain to the specific classroom (e.g., bottle feeding, diaper changing, stroller walks, etc.).

Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Entry-level teaching skills.
  • Strong leadership.
  • Ability to uphold strict confidentiality standards.
  • Knowledge of child development and behavior management techniques.
  • Entry-level knowledge of DPW regulation and an entry-level knowledge of Keystone Stars.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Caring and compassionate attitude when interacting with children.
  • Proficient in Technology.

Qualifications (Education Requirements/Experience):

  • Associate or bachelor’s in early education, special education, elementary education, or related field or equivalent work experience in the early education field.
  • Demonstrated agreement with the stated mission, philosophy, values, and goals of Learning Lighthouse.
  • Current and/or ability to obtain the following clearances: Child Abuse, State Police, FBI Fingerprinting, National Sex Offender Registry, and Mandated Reporter for Child Abuse.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within the first 90 days of hire.

Work Environment:

This role involves working in a classroom within a childcare facility, requiring the use of standard childcare and office equipment.

Physical Demands:

The physical requirements stated here represent the necessary conditions for an employee to carry out the core responsibilities of this position effectively. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear, as well as use their hands for lifting and handling or feeling objects. They are also frequently required to reach with their hands and arms. Additionally, they may occasionally need to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • May require the ability to walk to different locations, stand, lift, carry, and move light to medium weights.
  • Light lifting is required. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.

Position Types and Expected Hours to work:

This is a full-time position up to 40 hours per week. Must be able to work from childcare located in Chippewa Township, PA.
