Job Title: Presales Solutions Architect (Federal)

Reports to: Manager of Presales Engineering

Location: Washington D.C./Remote

Job Description

The Sterling Sales Engineer (SE) will collaborate with Sales Account Managers in a pre-sales technical role, configuring solutions to meet customer needs, showcasing products, setting up demonstrations, and explaining features and value. The SE will be a key partner in the sales cycle, engaging with customers over the phone and on-site to build trust and act as a trusted advisor. They will identify, research, and present industry solutions related to client devices, networking, servers, storage, cloud, and data centers. The SE will develop technical sales strategies for complex organizations, articulating Sterling’s value to customers and industry peers. We seek a high-caliber technical thought leader in AI, ML, HPC, storage, compute, and infrastructure to drive growth and inspire teams.

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 5 years as a Pre-Sales Engineer, Systems Engineer, or related customer-facing role. A four-year technical degree or military service is not required. The SE should connect technical dots and have a personable, sales-oriented personality to develop relationships with customers, sales teams, and vendors. Understanding tactical and strategic elements of Enterprise IT Consulting as a technical VAR is essential, including solutions from:

Core Technical Skills (experience with one or more)
  • Systems: Virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, Citrix), OS layers from Microsoft, Red Hat, Unix
  • Storage: SAN, NAS, software-defined storage (vSAN, Dell, HPE, Nutanix, NetApp, Pure Storage, Qumulo, VAST)
  • Network Architecture: SDN, network virtualization (Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Juniper, Extreme, Ruckus, VMware, HPE/Aruba)
  • AI/ML: Trends, models, large datasets, Python, R, Java, TensorFlow/PyTorch, NVIDIA, Intel, AMD, DataBricks
Additional Fundamentals (familiarity)
  • Security: Authentication, authorization, encryption
  • Cloud: Public, private, hybrid clouds; AWS, Azure, Google, Oracle, Gov Clouds
  • Cost Optimization: Open-source solutions, demand-based scaling
  • Services: Positioning solutions to customers and sales teams
