Description

The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Prep & Line Cook to join the Cafe team and play a pivotal role in assisting in the overall success of the culinary operations. This full-time (35 hours per week) Monday-Friday daytime, benefit eligible position offers pay starting at $18.50 an hour. Benefits start day one, and the full package is listed below.

Under general supervision, this position performs various food preparation, cooking, and cleaning tasks to ensure the kitchen remains efficient in creating and delivering dishes to patrons.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow the daily prep list created by the Kitchen Manager
  • Setup workstations and ensure all ingredients are stocked for service
  • Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
  • Assist with food production during the 11:00-1:30 Café lunch; prepare simple dishes such as salads, sandwiches, flatbreads, etc.
  • Follow recipes and production and portion standards
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
  • Ensure all food and other items are prepared and stored properly and adhere to HACCP guidelines to ensure safe and sanitary food production
  • Perform other kitchen duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and prioritize duties to meet deadlines
  • Work cooperatively, with high energy, in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Knowledge of catering, with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, cost control and presentation is a plus

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, training from a culinary school a plus
  • Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen, ServSafe certification preferred
