Job summary

Common Bond Cafe in the Medical Center area of Houston is seeking a Prep Cook to join our kitchen team. This is a full-time or part-time position with an $11.00–$15.00 hourly wage, depending on experience.

The role requires standing for 8 hours, lifting up to 50 lbs, and adherence to health and safety standards. You will prepare meals from standard recipes, assist in maintaining par levels, and support the Commissary Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Food Handler’s Card or Food Manager’s Certificate where required by local/state health code regulations.
  • Capable of standing for 8 hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Create meal preparations by gathering ingredients in order on the prep list.
  • Label and stock ingredients in storage.
  • Wash, chop and sort ingredients following yield guides.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and correctly.
  • Follow serving portion sizes and basic prep procedures.
  • Inform a manager of supplies needing replenishment.
  • Maintain proper storage per Health Department and Common Bond requirements.
  • Minimize waste and maintain sanitary work areas.
  • Understand all savory production processes.
  • Accept additional duties as assigned.

The Prep Cook is responsible for food preparation as per our standard recipes while working closely with the Commissary Supervisor. Also assist in maintenance of par levels of savories with the proper rotation of products and maintain highest cleanliness and hygiene standard in the savory section.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities include creating meal preparations by gathering food ingredients, in order, on the prep list
  • Labeling and stocking all ingredients in their respective area of storage
  • Washing, chopping and sorting ingredients like fruits, vegetables and meats following yield guides, according to departmental standards
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct use of equipment; use equipment and tools only as intended, properly and safely
  • Utilize our serving portion sizes and all basic meal prep procedures used in the kitchen
  • Inform a manager of any supplies that need to be requisitioned
  • Maintain proper storage procedures as specified by Health Department and Common Bond requirements
  • Minimize waste
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment
  • Knowledge of all savory production in the kitchen
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Maintain uphold the standard of a professional restaurant image, including kitchen cleanliness, proper uniforms, and appearance standards
  • A Food Handler’s Card or Food Manager’s Certificate where required by local and state health code regulations
  • Must always be able to work an 8-hour shift standing up
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
