Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Review surgical charts for the following day.
  • Assemble add-on charts for the following day.
  • Organize patient charts and paperwork.
  • Verify H&P, required clearances, and surgical orders.
  • Print consent forms and manage scanned consents.
  • Instruct patients on preoperative medication holds.
  • Coordinate consents/H&P with surgical offices.
  • Gather documentation for anesthesia needs.
  • Determine pre-procedure arrival times and transportation needs.
  • Make pre-operative calls to confirm instructions and arrival times.
  • Order documents as needed.
  • Answer calls from medical offices and schedulers.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Nursing Leadership.

THE PREOPERATIVE OPTIMIZATION ASSOCIATE IS AN ESSENTIAL ROLE THAT WILL BE WORKING CLOSELY WITH MANY ASPECTS OF THE SURGICAL TEAM IN A COORDINATED EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT PATIENTS ARE PREPARED FOR THEIR SURGICAL PROCEDURE IN THE FINAL DAYS LEADING UP TO THE SURGERY DATE.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

THE PREOPERATIVE OPTIMIZATION ASSOCIATE IS AN ESSENTIAL ROLE THAT WILL BE WORKING CLOSELY WITH MANY ASPECTS OF THE SURGICAL TEAM IN A COORDINATED EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT PATIENTS ARE PREPARED FOR THEIR SURGICAL PROCEDURE IN THE FINAL DAYS LEADING UP TO THE SURGERY DATE.

  • To review all surgical charts for following day
  • To put together add on charts for following day.
  • To organize patient charts (paperwork arranged in correct area of chart).
  • To verify History and Physical completed and mentions need for procedure, medical clearance, specialty clearance (Cardiology/ pulmonary/ neurology/ etc.).
  • To verify that surgical orders are entered and that order matches H&P, and surgical schedule
  • To print consents scanned in from office/generate consents not scanned.
  • Instruct surgical patients on medications that need to be held prior to procedure(anticoagulant/glp1/diabetic meds).
  • To call surgical offices for consents/H&P if not present.
  • To call other medical offices to get supporting documentation for anesthesia needs.
  • To help determine the patients pre-procedure arrival time.
  • To make pre-operative calls to confirm patients have surgical instructions and time of arrival forprocedure; confirm transportation and help book hospital transport if needed.
  • To order needed documents when running low.
  • To answer incoming calls from medical offices and surgical schedulers.
  • To perform any and all additional responsibilities based upon the needs of the department, as determined by Nursing Leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUISITES:

Education: Medical Assistance, Office Assistant

Experience: Experience in a hospital or outpatient care setting using the electronic medical record (EMR). Surgical support experience preferred.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Working Conditions: Office setting within the hospital; ability to lift and carry up to 10 poundsunassisted; exposure to confidential information; interaction with patients, physicians, and staff
