Job summary

Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, NC, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for the Pre-Admission Testing Clinic. The role focuses on thorough medical histories, perioperative optimization, and interdisciplinary coordination while supporting a broad range of procedures in adults 18+.

This PRN position schedules 1–2 days per week with a 10‑hour shift, no on-call, evenings or weekends. Requirements include NP or PA credentials with relevant adult care experience, current state

Qualifications

• NP: Graduate of accredited DNP or MSN Nurse Practitioner program for adult care.
• PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Physician Assistant Program. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or Doctoral Degree strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed medical/surgical history assessment.
• Perform physical exams.
• Provide perioperative instructions/guidance.
• Provide consults (diabetes, nutrition, smoking cessation, pain management, geriatric care, sleep apnea, anemia, cardiology and hospital medicine).
• Prescribe treatment or services to optimize patient prior to planned procedure.
• Follow up on ordered labs and diagnostics.
• Explain necessity and results of testing and procedures.
• Coordinate with specialists for preoperative optimization and timing.
• Participate in clinic research activities if needed.
• Perform telehealth visits if needed.
