Job summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals LLC in Boston is offering a 6-month Preformulation Co-Op focused on automation. You will join the Preformulation group in Pharmaceutical Sciences & Manufacturing and contribute to automation initiatives supporting early formulation development for preclinical drug candidates.

The program emphasizes hands-on learning, collaboration with formulation scientists, and data-driven improvements to lab workflows.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Automation Engineering, or related field.
Eligible for a full-time co-op term in Boston, MA (Jan–Jul 2027).
Legal authorization to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided for internships.
Strong interest in laboratory automation, data systems, and process improvement.
Ability to learn new software quickly and work both independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

Support automation workflows in the Preformulation group for preclinical candidates.
Collect, organize, and analyze experimental and operational data to support decisions.
Document procedures, system parameters, results, and project updates clearly.
Troubleshoot automation systems, scripts, or data workflows as needed.
Collaborate with formulation scientists and cross-functional teams to optimize processes.
