Ryan Companies US, Inc. has an immediate career opportunity for a Preconstruction Manager I to join our team in Austin!

To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate strong experience in construction estimating, cost modeling, and preconstruction services within projects ranging from $5M to $100M+. This role is responsible for developing accurate and timely project estimates—both independently and collaboratively—while actively managing scope and supporting budget objectives across the project team.

Key to success is the ability to build and review cost estimates, perform detailed quantity take‑offs, and deliver value analysis that drives cost efficiency. Candidates must also leverage historical project cost data and provide expert preconstruction guidance to project management teams.

This position requires close collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including owners, clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, developers, and internal teams such as marketing and construction management. The role reports to the Senior Preconstruction Manager or Director of Preconstruction and partners closely with project managers throughout the lifecycle of each project.

Some Things You Can Expect to Do
  • Work with project managers to develop conceptual and detailed estimates.
  • Perform quantity take‑offs of all construction systems.
  • Create project estimates individually and with a team.
  • Solicit subcontractor pricing for budgeting and bid proposals.
  • Scope and select subcontractors based on best value and project requirements.
  • Record final estimates and maintain cost history.
  • Create, track, and manage project scope.
  • Participate and review buyout and GMP estimates.
  • Create preconstruction schedules with project management and field personnel.
  • Support the development, architectural, and construction teams with preconstruction expertise including value design, costs, project schedule, procurement, and project pursuits.
  • Train Cost Engineers and Project Management staff.
  • Consistently achieve customer satisfaction and Raving Fan goals.
  • Review and provide feedback on project estimates created by the project managers, and provide direction for understanding project scope, market pricing, and available resources.
  • Assist clients and developers with conceptual budgets of types, and be capable of cost modeling using Uniformat II system costs.
You Will Really Stand Out If
  • 4‑year engineering, architectural or management degree required.
  • 4–6 years of commercial construction experience.
  • Knowledge of construction means and methods and ability to read and understand project plans.
  • Proficiency with CSI and Uniformat II work‑breakdown structures.
  • Ability to perform thoughtful and accurate quantity take‑offs, and summarize data in a meaningful way.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel. Working knowledge of OST, Bluebeam, VICO, Navisworks, and Revit a plus.
  • Knowledge of design‑build, CM at Risk, and best‑value processes.
  • Ability to teach skills and knowledge to others.
  • Knowledge of construction means and methods, building types, and procurement methods.
  • Ability to listen, prioritize, and value the opinions of others.
