Job summary

Gilbane Building Company in Detroit is seeking a Preconstruction Director to lead preconstruction and design phase services across the division. You will coach and develop teams, drive strategic initiatives, and collaborate with executives to optimize profit and client outcomes.

You will manage budgets, staffing, and cross-divisional coordination, while advancing a culture of integrity, teamwork, and excellence. This role demands broad construction management expertise and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• 10-15+ years leading operations, procurement, estimating, scheduling, or supply chain teams.
• 5-10 years of experience in the construction management or A/E industry.
• Experience on multiple project delivery types (CMR, DB, IPD).
• Design phase/design-build management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the division's support operations, including estimating, purchasing, and scheduling.
• Engage in enterprise leadership through Preconstruction Peer Group participation.
• Review contracts with leaders to develop risk mitigation and fee strategies.
• Hire preconstruction staff to support the division and manage budgets.
• Foster a positive, inclusive work environment and develop employees.
• Collaborate with divisions to coordinate resources and improve margins.
