Job summary

Gilbane Building Company is seeking a Preconstruction Director to lead preconstruction and design phase services across the Division. You will guide teams, coordinate with other divisions, and drive strategic initiatives to optimize project outcomes.

You will partner with executives to align on risk, budgets, and client opportunities, while building high-performing, inclusive teams across multiple locations including Cleveland, Detroit, Columbus, and Pittsburgh.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar technical field.
• 10-15+ years of experience leading operations, procurement, estimating, scheduling, or supply chain teams.
• 5-10 years of experience in construction management or A/E industry.
• Experience on multiple project delivery types preferred (CMR, DB, IPD, etc.).
• Design phase/design-build management experience preferred
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

• Leads, coaches, and develops the support operations departments for a Division, including estimating and scheduling.
• Engages in enterprise level leadership through the Preconstruction Peer Group.
• Reviews contracts with leaders and legal to develop risk mitigation and fee strategies.
• Develops the technical and leadership skills of Estimating, Purchasing, VDC, and other support ops.
• Manages workload and drives collaboration between division support ops.
• Coordinates with other Divisions and Directors of Preconstruction for resource alignment.
• Responsible for hiring preconstruction staff to support the division.
• Manages preconstruction budgets and recoverability of staff.
• Provides strategic insights to executive leadership for informed decision-making.
• Coaches employees through a team of managers.
• Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment.
• Drives the long-term strategic vision and acts as a bridge between Executives.
• Partners with business development to align with sales strategies and account plans.
