Job summary

6 Degrees Search is seeking a Welding Engineer for a manufacturing client focused on precision components. You will own welding processes, develop repeatable joining methods, and collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to improve weld integrity and productivity.

You will document procedures, evaluate materials and joint designs, plan trials, and train staff. The role requires hands-on experience, welding metallurgy knowledge, and a focus on continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Hands-on experience developing and troubleshooting welding processes in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of welding metallurgy, engineering drawings, weld symbols, inspection methods, and process documentation.
• Ability to analyze technical problems and communicate corrective actions with production teams.
• Preferred background includes experience with precision assemblies, stainless steels or nickel alloys, automated welding, and related qualifications or certifications.

Responsibilities

• Develop, document, and optimize welding procedures, process parameters, joint preparation, tooling, and fixturing for new and existing products.
• Evaluate materials, joint designs, heat input, distortion, and weldability to establish reliable production processes.
• Support procedure and welder qualification activities and maintain technical records against customer and industry requirements.
• Investigate weld defects and process variation; lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions with manufacturing and quality.
• Partner with design engineers to improve joint accessibility, manufacturability, and assembly consistency.
• Plan welding trials and support inspection, testing, process validation, and transfer of new products into production.
• Train production personnel on approved methods and prepare work instructions, acceptance criteria, and process controls.
• Evaluate welding equipment and process improvements that reduce scrap, rework, and cycle time while supporting safe operations.
